Helium Community Bridging the Gap with New Sensor Integration Device

Summary
  • Helium community members have developed a circuit board product for integrating sensors onto the Helium LoRaWAN Network.
  • The device allows for the reading of data from various sensor types, including weather stations, soil moisture sensors, and tire pressure sensors.

Helium community builders drive innovation! πŸ’—

In April, Helium community members Nik Hawks and Dirk Beers set out to "bridge the gap" between lower-powered sensors that transmit signals at shorter distances vs. higher-powered sensors that operate on the Helium #LoRaWAN Network. πŸ›œ

Using a grant from the Helium Foundation, the team developed a circuit board product that integrates with other sensors and enables the reading of data from those devices, using LoRaWAN technology, to re-broadcast onto the Helium Network.

Sensor types include: 🌑️ Weather stations πŸ’§Soil moisture sensors πŸ’¨ Air quality monitors πŸ›ž Tire pressure sensors πŸ‘£ People counters 🚦Traffic counters πŸš— Parking sensors or any number of different sensors.

This new device opens the door to thousands of sensor types that can now easily onboard onto the Helium ecosystem. This is the power of decentralized networks and how high-utility wireless infrastructure like the Helium Network can drive transformation.
