💫 About

What is this network?

FOAM is an open protocol for decentralized, geospatial data markets. The protocol is designed to empower users to build a consensus-driven map of the world that can be trusted for every application. FOAM secures physical space on the blockchain, harnessing the power of Ethereum with a cryptographic software utility token used to provide computational work and verification to the network. The decentralized FOAM Location network consists of Zone Anchors (ZA), which are remotely-controlled radio nodes coordinated to transceive LoRa packets.

How can I mine tokens?

FOAM tokens can be mined through a process called "signaling". In this process, FOAM token holders, also known as Cartographers, signal where location services are needed, and in doing so increase the eventual block reward (the FOAM Tokens received through the mining process) of that location. The mining rewards of the FOAM protocol are available to Zone operators.

Any geographical restrictions?

There are no specific geographical restrictions mentioned for the FOAM network. The FOAM protocol is designed to be a global, consensus-driven map of the world. The spatial distribution of mining rewards is intended to guide and incentivize participants to grow and spread the geographic coverage of the network.

How can I optimize my mining rewards?

Mining rewards in the FOAM network are spatially weighted by the signals. This further incentivizes the growth and dissipation of the network across a variety of users and locations. Prior to the initiation of mining, participants will signal where location services are needed, and in doing so increase the eventual block reward of that location.

How can I use the network?

FOAM token holders can become Cartographers and contribute to their locality and interests by curating, mapping, and verifying the locations of static objects. As the FOAM network grows and Cartographers begin to fully explore and map the world, FOAM token holders may decide to contribute to the network in a dynamic manner. The FOAM Map is a Token Curated Registry, which means that Cartographers use FOAM tokens to sort the good places from the less so good places. This way, the FOAM Map can be fully decentralized, harnessing collective intelligence without a central authority to distribute value back to the participants who create it.

Who governs this network?

The FOAM network is governed by its users, the FOAM token holders. The FOAM protocol is designed to be decentralized and permissionless, meaning that it does not have a central authority. Instead, it relies on the collective intelligence of its users, who use FOAM tokens to curate and verify the locations of static objects on the FOAM Map.

Funding

The FOAM network is funded by the sale of its FOAM tokens. The FOAM token is used in all parts of the FOAM Map, and grants control over the registries of points of interest (POIs) to market and community forces.
