💫 About

What is Lit Protocol Crypto?

The Lit Protocol is a decentralized network that provides distributed cryptography for encryption, compute, and programmable signing. It serves as a generalizable key management layer, offering developers a comprehensive toolkit for managing sovereign identities on the open Web. The core functionality of Lit Protocol includes Encryption and Access Control, and Programmable Signing. Encryption and Access Control enable client-side encryption and decryption of data based on on or off-chain conditions, without relying on a centralized key custodian. Programmable Signing allows for complex signing automations or seamless wallet onboarding experiences using Programmable Key Pairs (PKPs) and Lit Actions. PKPs are MPC wallets generated and distributed across the Lit network, while Lit Actions are JavaScript functions dictating when, why, and what a PKP wallet will sign.

How can I use the Lit Protocol network?

To use the Lit Protocol, developers can start by installing the Lit JavaScript SDK in their local environment. This SDK provides a modular framework for implementing Lit functionality into applications. Developers can then create their first Lit-enabled application using Lit Actions. They can also learn how to encrypt data for private storage on the open web, and how to fetch and sign data from the open Web using Lit Actions. The Lit Protocol supports the use of both on and off-chain data when defining access control conditions.
