What is this network?

ThreeFold is a decentralized autonomous internet infrastructure. It is a globally-distributed grid of storage, compute, and network capacity, acting as “no middleman” internet resources between independent capacity providers and users. The network is designed to deliver ultra-secure, scalable, green, deterministic IT workload deployments close to the edge. It provides unparalleled sovereignty, scalability, and efficiency features that emerging IT workloads require, and that traditional cloud infrastructures cannot deliver.

ThreeFold was built from the ground up by a team of early Internet pioneers and is supported by a global community. Together they aim to catalyze a new digital era, where individuals and communities (big and small) regain sovereignty over their digital lives and come together to build an Internet that fosters innovation and shared prosperity.

How can I mine tokens?

ThreeFold Tokens ($TFTs) are not mined in the traditional sense but are produced through a process called farming. When a farmer's capacity is added to the ThreeFold Grid, TFTs corresponding to the value of that capacity are generated. When their capacity is sold, farmers receive additional TFTs.

How can I optimize my mining rewards?

Optimizing farming rewards on the ThreeFold network can be achieved by increasing the quality and quantity of the resources you provide to the network. This could involve upgrading the hardware of your node, such as increasing RAM or storage capacity. The monthly rewards are adjusted according to the upgrades made to the node.

How can I use the network?

ThreeFold invites open source builders and system administrators to deploy and administer on a decentralized autonomous edge infrastructure. The ThreeFold Grid offers a range of low-level constructs known as primitives. These powerful functionalities enable you to create diverse and customized solutions on top of the grid, opening up a world of possibilities. Any application compatible with Linux can seamlessly run on the ThreeFold Grid, ensuring maximum flexibility.

From the ThreeFold Playground, a marketplace of easy-to-use browser experience to deploy solutions on the TFGrid via weblets, to Javascript and Go Clients, to Infrastructure As Code (IAC), developers and system administrators can find their way through a variety of industry standard and compatible tools and solutions. Who governs this network?

The ThreeFold team plays a central role in the development of the technology as well as fundraising, business development, and communication – and shares regularly with the community through an open forum and community calls to set the path forward.

The ThreeFold DAO is collectively responsible for voting in key decisions for the project. Farmers vote through a DAO mechanism on the ThreeFold Dashboard.

Further, minting is governed by a combination of consensus nodes and a human council. The consensus nodes calculate farming rewards and compare their results. Five of seven nodes must agree to complete minting, along with a check by a human council. This allows human oversight before any transactions are committed to Stellar, where they’d become irreversible.

ThreeFold is a long-term project leveraging open source technology created by ThreeFold Tech. As of June 2020, ThreeFold and its ecosystem have invested more than $40 million into the project.
